Plot

Sunflower Meadow

The town is built from clay bricks with either clay tiles or thatched roofs. All farming is communal, although families keep small herb and vegetable gardens. The town has an orchard of apples and pears. The townsfolk grow sunflowers, barley, potatoes, vegetables, and many varieties of squash. They keep domesticated bees for producing honey, pollen, and beeswax. They raise crickets as a food source and rhinoceros beetles as bugs of burden. They gather wild berries and herbs of all kinds.

When a creature passes away, a small figurine is carved and added to the town’s family hall. Here, the figurines of all townsfolk are kept. During festivals or town events, some part of the festivities occurs in the town hall to honor and include the ancestors in the events. The whole town is considered one family and everyone helps to maintain the family hall. The largest figurine around which all others are gathered is of Great Papa Elmbreeze, who founded Sunflower Meadows.

Party enjoys the festival

As autumn descends upon the rural landscape, the once-quiet farming village awakens with the vibrant spirit of the harvest festival.

As the festival approached, villagers came together to decorate their homes, fences, and public spaces. Bales of hay are arranged into playful sculptures, and colorful banners are strung between trees, fluttering gently in the cool autumn breeze. Decorations handmade by the village children are hung from pins and nails throughout the village square.

Central to the festivities is the communal feast — a magnificent display of the season’s bounty. Long tables are laden with dishes made from the local bounty: squash soup, roasted root vegetables, barley bread, and pie made from freshly picked apples. A sense of togetherness envelops the gathering as neighbors and friends share stories, laughter, and delicious food. The culmination of the day features a parade, where participants march with floats decorated to reflect agriculture’s importance to their community, often including songs and dances that resonate with the village’s history.

At the end of the day, as night blankets the village, the festival concludes with a mesmerizing bonfire. Families gather around the flickering flames, sharing stories of past harvests and dreams for the future.
